Review of the McDonalds mobile app
The McDonalds app is a convenient way to order, pay, and save when purchasing from McDonalds. The app has the establishment’s full menu plus exclusive deals available to users for purchase. Users may select their items, add them to their cart, and submit their order ahead of their visit. They may also place orders for delivery via the app. By utilizing the app, users can establish an account with McDonalds, saving their past orders, create favorites, earn rewards, and even apply exclusive discounts to their orders.
Usability: The app is easy to navigate. Its interface is simple and provides clear instructions for users. The layout is consistent throughout, so regardless of which step the user is in, the app makes it easy to find what you are looking for. When it comes to mistakes and errors, there is room for improvement. It is not simple or sometimes even possible to remedy a mistake on the establishment’s part. For instance, if an item ordered for pickup is missing from the order, it is not easy or sometimes even possible to correct without physically returning to the establishment.
Design: The design is straightforward. It is easy to use, with visualizations and descriptions to aid users in their ordering experience.
Functionality: The app offers a range of features, including mobile order and pay, rewards, tracking, and exclusive deals. The app performs well with no issues to report. Navigating through the app is smooth. Customization is limited to pre-selected options. The app integrates with the McDonalds rewards program, however, only one reward can be redeemed per order.

Recommendations:

  1. Integrate AI to allow order customization. Currently, users are unable to customize orders the way they would at the counter. Customization is limited to adding or removing preselected ingredients but does not allow for some common additions. Allow users to type and describe what they would like to add and then use AI integration to break down the description into key words to simplify the customization for both the user and employees so that the request is uniform and easy to fulfill.
  2. Allow users to redeem as many rewards as they would like. They have already earned the rewards and would appreciate not being limited to one redemption per purchase. An expanded reward menu would also be beneficial to users.
  3. Integrate or simplify processes for issues with orders. Currently, it is very unclear how to remedy orders with missing items. Allow users to locate the order they have an issue with and have an option to submit issues with that order accessible and visible to users. This will ease users of the burden of having to return to the store physically, or for some, abandoning the error completely and eating the cost.
Overall, I rate this app a 4/5. It is very convenient, rewarding, and user-friendly. There is room for improvement. By enhancing customization and support options, this app would become more appealing to a wider range of users.
